Bureau de Contrôle Technique Pour la Construction – SECO

The Bureau is a private co-operative organisation founded in 1934 by the construction industry sector under the supervision of its Technical Council which is formed by professors of universities and the Military School of Belgium. Its aims are :-

  • to reduce the risk of abnormal behaviours of the controlled buildings (e.g. schools, offices, hospitals, commercial and industrial buildings etc.. and other constructions, (bridges, tunnels, pylons, etc.)
  • to help in enabling the subscriptions of ten year liability insurance policies covering all the participants in the building process
  • to control the fire protection concepts, the safety of persons in buildings, the acoustic and vibration aspects of construction and environmental risks (e.e asbestos and waste disposal)
  • to control the quality to materials (certification of construction materials and products)
  • to certify the quality of systems (ISO9000) and persons
  • to participate to or to perform the assignment of the health & safety co-ordination temporary or mobile sites
